Cafe World Lag

I don't know what's behind this, but using the Google Chrome Browser should significantly speed up your Cafe World performance. I never realized how slow the game is using Internet Explorer (because I hardly use it). Next is the Adobe Flash Player settings. First off, make sure you have the latest version installed. You can download it HERE. You can edit your Adobe Flash Player settings by right clicking on the Cafe World window. This will bring up a little box. Click on settings. Here's a tip from Adobe's website: "If you have display problems with Flash Player, such as poor picture quality or slow display times, deselect Enable Hardware Acceleration in the Display panel. This should eliminate hardware or driver compatibility problems with Flash Player. Flash Player then uses software to scale and display the content." I'm hearing alot of people at the Cafe World (Facebook Zynga game) discussion board complaining about lag. Cafe World is a very memory and CPU intensive application. The first thing you want to address is your computer performance. Whether you have the latest dual/quad core processor, or an older system, you definitely want to tweak your settings. Most people don't realize all the processes and applications that are running in the background when your computer boots up (virus scanners, installed programs, etc.). It's a good idea to turn off unnecessary applications. Here's an article that will help you: How to turn off useless computer background applications. Once you've cleaned out those unnecessary applications it's time to clean out your cache, temp files, junk files and registry. Here's a great free program that I use all the time: CCleaner. Now that we have all that stuff cleaned out, it's time to defragment your hard drive. This will organize your files and can also reduce the time it takes to load programs and open files. Here's another wonderful free program that will defragment and optimize your drive: Smart Defrag. Even if you're not playing Cafe World, it's always good to keep your system in tune. Spyware and adware can cripple your system in the worst case and slow it down considerably at best. Scanning your system on a regular basis is highly recommended. There are two programs I use: Spybot Search and Destroy and SUPERAntiSpyware. Now we can try and deal with that Cafe World Lag...

In the bottom right hand corner of your Cafe World screen is a little box with 6 items. The top one on the right hand side is "Toggle Quality". Setting this to lower quality may give you a slight increase in performance.

Once you have Cafe World up and running, hit ctrl-alt-del. This will bring up the Windows Task Manager. Click on "Processes" box at the top of the screen. Right click on the browser name you are using (Firefox will be firefox.exe and Internet explorer will be IEXPLORE.EXE). When you right click, you will get a little drop down box. Left click on "Set Affinity..." and uncheck either CPU 0 or CPU 1 (it doesn't matter which one). The game performance should increase dramatically if you were experiencing lag. I've included a little video to guide you through the Task Manager part. If you do not have the Set Affinity option (dual core and Hyper Threading CPU's) try setting "Priority" to "High, or "Realtime". Please remember that Cafe World is in Beta, which means there will be performance issues as well as program issues. This guide will not solve everyone's lag problems, but hopefully will be a benefit to some. Best of luck...
